Explained simply
Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, or PÖFF, is an annual film festival held in Estonia’s capital. It presents films from Estonia and abroad, giving audiences and industry professionals a chance to encounter cinema from many countries.
The festival’s programme is led by an artistic director, who helps choose and shape the films shown. Triin Tramberg has worked at PÖFF for 16 years; the festival’s anniversary programme includes a focus on Latin American films and a larger platform for cinema from Estonia and its Baltic neighbours.
PÖFF matters as a meeting place for international filmmakers and audiences, and as a way for films from smaller national industries to reach viewers beyond their home markets. Its programme also offers a snapshot of the subjects and perspectives filmmakers are exploring.
