Poll flashes warning signs for Republicans in 7 battleground Senate races
A New York Times/Siena poll found Democratic Senate candidates leading in five Republican-held battlegrounds, with Iowa nearly tied, days before the midterm elections. The results suggest Democrats have a possible route to Senate control, but several contests are close enough that either party could still win.
In Texas, James Talarico leads Ken Paxton 50% to 43%, while Adam Hamilton leads Roger Marshall 49% to 44% in Kansas. Democrats also lead in Ohio, Maine, Alaska and Michigan; Iowa’s Josh Turek is ahead 48% to 47%. Across the seven states, 38% approve of Donald Trump’s job performance and Democrats hold a nine-point advantage on trust to address living costs; the poll’s state-level margins of error range from 3.4 to 5 points.
In short
- Democrats lead in five Republican-held Senate races.
- Texas and Kansas are among the states where Republicans trail.
- Close margins leave control of the Senate uncertain.
