ChatGPT now lets you lock private chats with a PIN
OpenAI has introduced Locked Chats, a feature that lets ChatGPT users protect individual conversations with a four-digit PIN or, on supported devices, biometric or device authentication. The chats are hidden from regular history, pinned chats and standard search results, offering added privacy when someone else uses a person’s phone or computer.
Locked chats appear under Projects > Locked chats and can still be continued there. Locking a conversation removes it from its original project, along with access to that project’s instructions, files and memory; unlocking it does not restore it to the project. The feature is rolling out across most ChatGPT plans on the web, mobile apps and desktop apps, but is not available for ChatGPT for Healthcare, and some conversation types cannot be locked.
In short
- ChatGPT users can protect selected chats with a PIN.
- Supported devices may allow biometric or device authentication.
- Locking a chat removes it from its project.
