GREAT WHITE’s MARK KENDALL Remembers His ‘Best Friend’ JACK RUSSELL: ‘We Were Connected At The Hip Our Entire Career’
Great White guitarist Mark Kendall has described former frontman Jack Russell as his best friend and said their split was not caused by a personal falling-out. In a recent interview, Kendall said Russell’s declining health and struggles with addiction meant he could no longer perform, while a later dispute over use of the Great White name led to legal action.
Kendall said the two remained on good terms and agreed Russell could perform as Jack Russell’s Great White so he could earn a living. He recalled that their relationship extended beyond music, with their families connected, and said the band had not intended to hurt him. Russell died in August 2024, aged 63, less than a month after announcing his retirement from touring following a Lewy body dementia diagnosis.
