Challinor ‘unanimous choice’ to take Owls forward
Sheffield Wednesday have appointed Dave Challinor as manager on a three-and-a-half-year contract, with chairman David Storch saying the board unanimously backed the choice. The club says the appointment is part of a longer-term effort to rebuild and establish a consistent playing identity.
Challinor, 51, takes over with Wednesday ninth in League One, two points outside the play-off places. He has won promotion at every club he has managed and left Stockport County after losing the League One play-off final in the summer. Assistants Clint Hill and Antony Sweeney will join him, and his first match is Sunday’s FA Cup tie at League Two Oldham Athletic.
In short
- Wednesday appoint Challinor on a deal running until 2030.
- The Owls are ninth in League One, two points off the play-offs.
- His first match is Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Oldham.
