‘Thirteen in Gaza’ Acquired by Koudéta Films for France Ahead of Doha Film Festival
Koudéta Films has acquired the French distribution rights to Palestinian director Hosam Abu Dan’s “Thirteen in Gaza”, a father-daughter drama filmed in Gaza during the war. Its planned French theatrical release, accompanied by an impact campaign, will bring the story to audiences there and forms part of the company’s emerging focus on political and social films, with Palestine central to its mission.
The film follows 13-year-old Raghad, who has lost her home and much of her family in a bombing, and lives with her father in a crowded displacement camp. As she faces puberty, grief and little privacy, her father struggles with poverty and wartime hardship, including difficult moral choices. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September, where it won the NETPAC Award, and will have its Middle East premiere at the Doha Film Festival, running from 19 to 27 November; no French release date has been announced.
