Woman jailed for ten years over fatal Lamborghini crash on M62
Humaira Batool has been jailed for ten years after being convicted of causing the death of her friend, Mohammed Shaan Hussain, by dangerous driving. The 26-year-old was driving a Lamborghini at high speed in wet conditions when it crashed on the M62, overturned and caught fire; Hussain, 20, died trapped inside. The case drew further attention after Batool missed her sentencing hearing, which the judge found was an attempt to avoid justice.
The crash happened near Ripponden, West Yorkshire, in the early hours of 21 December 2022. Batool first said she had been asleep in the passenger seat, then changed her account after CCTV showed her swapping places with Hussain; an expert said the car’s speed could only have been reached using the driver’s accelerator. The judge said she had driven at more than 120mph for many miles and had tried to blame Hussain. After she failed to attend court, police found her at Bradford Royal Infirmary and took her to the hearing.
In short
- Batool was jailed for ten years over the fatal M62 crash.
- Hussain died when the Lamborghini overturned and caught fire.
- CCTV and expert evidence contradicted Batool’s account.
