Titan1Studios Adapting Stephen R. Bown’s ‘The Company: The Rise and Fall Of The Hudson’s Bay Empire’ As Historical Drama Series
Calgary-based Titan1Studios has secured the exclusive media and adaptation rights to Stephen R. Bown’s history book about the Hudson’s Bay Company and is developing a television drama called House of Hudson. The project will explore the company’s 19th-century rivalries and the forces that shaped North American history, with a search for a showrunner under way.
Set in the 1820s, the series is planned to follow the conflict between the Hudson’s Bay Company and the North West Company, their forced merger and the rise of governor Sir George Simpson. It will move between London and Montreal boardrooms and the Pacific Northwest wilderness, examining British imperial power and the origins of modern Canada. Bown’s book was published in 2020 and won the 2021 National Business Book Award and the J.W. Dafoe Book Prize.
