Creators Pounce on Midterm Elections, Hoping to Win New Viewers and More Dollars
Independent journalists and former television news presenters are preparing to livestream coverage of the US midterm elections, seeking audiences alongside traditional broadcasters. Their shows promise more direct, less producer-curated commentary, while giving the hosts and platforms a chance to attract subscribers, advertisers and revenue.
Planned coverage includes streams from MeidasTouch, Chuck Todd and Chris Cillizza, Piers Morgan, Jim Acosta and Katie Couric, and Don Lemon; C-SPAN will also simulcast programmes from The Young Turks and Patrick Bet-David. A Pew survey found 58% of US adults see social media as an important way to keep up with news, up from 43% in 2022, while 13% now call it their most important source, compared with 5% then.
