In Pictures: US midterm elections in 20 photos

Americans voted in the 2026 midterm elections, which will decide control of Congress and influence how much opposition President Donald Trump faces during the rest of his term. Democrats are seeking to regain the House and Senate after two years of Republican control, while Republicans aim to defend their narrow majorities and advance Trump’s agenda.

A collection of 20 photographs shows voters, volunteers and candidates on Election Day across the country. Scenes include queues at polling stations, last-minute efforts to encourage voting, candidate Chris Pappas casting his ballot in New Hampshire and a Washington, DC, voter taking her young daughters with her.
