Sussex appoint Barrett-Wild as first female CEO
Sussex have appointed Beth Barrett-Wild as the first woman to lead the county as chief executive, with her role due to begin on 1 January 2027. The appointment brings extensive experience in the women’s game to the club’s leadership, following her work at the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Barrett-Wild spent 13 years at the ECB, including as director of the women’s professional game and head of The Hundred’s women’s competition, and was tournament director for this year’s Women’s T20 World Cup. Sussex have also proposed five new non-executive directors, including former England bowler Holly Colvin, 37, who played for Sussex from 2005 to 2015 and scored the winning run in the 2009 World Cup final. The five candidates’ three-year terms depend on ratification at the club’s annual general meeting next March.
In short
- Beth Barrett-Wild becomes Sussex’s first female chief executive.
- She joins on 1 January 2027 after 13 years at the ECB.
