Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s Most Hated Dungeon Gets Reworked in Remake
Nintendo has reworked the Water Temple for its Ocarina of Time remake, addressing one of the original game’s most criticised and difficult dungeons. The changes matter because the remake aims to retain the underwater atmosphere while making the temple easier to navigate and less frustrating.
Producer Eiji Aonuma said the team adjusted the dungeon he designed 28 years ago. Players can switch items using the d-pad instead of repeatedly opening menus, and lattice-style walls offer clearer views of nearby rooms to help with orientation. The remake is due out on 5 November, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
In short
- The remake makes the Water Temple easier to navigate.
- D-pad item switching replaces repeated menu trips.
- Lattice walls improve visibility between rooms.
Explained simply
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an adventure game in which hero Link explores dungeons, solves puzzles and fights enemies. The Water Temple is a large underwater dungeon where players change the water level to reach different areas.
In the original game, players often had to open menus to switch equipment, and the temple’s layout could be hard to follow. Eiji Aonuma, the game’s producer, designed the dungeon; its reputation helps explain why changes to it have drawn attention.
