Fund founder moves family from Switzerland to London after Lake Geneva burglary
Investment fund founder Robert Gibbins is leaving Switzerland for London with his family after burglars broke into their Lake Geneva home and stole a heavy safe. He says the raid shattered his confidence in the country’s reputation for safety and raises concerns about whether families and business founders feel secure there.
The intruders targeted the family’s villa in Founex on 1 January, knocked down an interior wall to remove the safe, which weighed more than 200kg, and escaped through the main gate. The safe held valuables and irreplaceable family heirlooms; Gibbins declined to estimate their value. Swiss burglary cases rose 1.2 per cent to 46,636 in 2025, while residential burglaries in Vaud fell 8.4 per cent to 2,766.
In short
- Robert Gibbins is moving his family back to London after a burglary.
- Thieves removed a safe weighing more than 200kg from his villa.
- Swiss burglary figures rose, though home burglaries in Vaud fell.
