Nexus Mods will require AI disclosures on new mod uploads
Nexus Mods will require authors to disclose whether AI was used in new mod uploads, making the information clearer for people browsing the PC gaming platform. The site says it supports human creativity but will not ban AI-generated mods, arguing that AI can be involved in many parts of creation and a ban could discourage authors from being open about its use.
AI-assisted mods must explain publicly how and where AI was used, and AI labels will be more prominent. Authors have 60 days, until 2 January, to update existing mods before enforcement begins; users will also be able to hide AI-generated content on game pages and the homepage, with search controls planned. Nexus Mods says it will not use mods to train AI or sell or license them for that purpose, and is also testing limits on how many uploads from one author appear in Recently Added.
In short
- New mod uploads must disclose AI use.
- AI-assisted mods need a public explanation.
- Existing mods must comply by 2 January.
