Liam Neeson Reacts To Meryl Streep Taking Over ‘Narnia’ Role Of Aslan: “Nobody Better”
Liam Neeson has welcomed Meryl Streep taking over the voice of Aslan in Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming Narnia film, saying no one would be better suited to the role. The casting passes the character to Streep after Neeson voiced the lion in three earlier films.
Gerwig’s adaptation, *The Magician’s Nephew*, is due in cinemas on 12 February. She said she wanted an actor over 70 who could convey wisdom, emotional depth and joy; the story follows Aslan creating Narnia, long before the events of *The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe*.
In short
- Neeson approves of Streep voicing Aslan.
- Gerwig’s film is due in cinemas on 12 February.
- *The Magician’s Nephew* tells Narnia’s creation story.
Explained simply
The Narnia stories are a series of fantasy books by C. S. Lewis, set in a world reached from our own. Aslan is a talking lion who creates and protects Narnia, and is one of the series’ central characters.
The Magician’s Nephew is the first story in Narnia’s fictional chronology, though it was published after some of the other books. Its events take place long before The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and explain how Narnia began.
