Katseye sparks backlash after canceling Detroit concert 30 minutes before showtime
Katseye postponed its sold-out Detroit concert 30 minutes before the scheduled 8pm start after member Megan Skiendiel became unwell. The late notice left fans upset and drew criticism from parents who had travelled long distances and spent heavily to attend.
The venue announced the postponement at 7.30pm and said the concert would be rescheduled. One mother said she had driven five and a half hours and spent about $5,000 on VIP tickets, travel and outfits; another described children crying inside the arena. Three members had already taken part in a VIP meet-and-greet and performed two songs at soundcheck. The six-member group, formed in 2024, has also had two members on hiatus and received two Grammy nominations this year.
In short
- Katseye postponed its sold-out Detroit show 30 minutes before it began.
- Megan Skiendiel was unwell and unable to perform.
- Parents criticised the late notice after costly trips to the concert.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
Postponing the concert was a responsible response if Megan was too unwell to perform safely or reliably; continuing could have worsened her condition and short-changed fans. A sudden illness can be unpredictable, and the venue said the show would be rescheduled, giving ticket-holders the prospect of seeing the full group later.
The case against
Fans can reasonably object to receiving notice only 30 minutes before the start, after travelling for hours and spending heavily, especially when some had already attended a meet-and-greet and soundcheck. Even if the illness made postponement necessary, the late communication and disruption left families bearing substantial costs and disappointment, so they may expect clearer contingency plans or practical support.
