EU disburses over 4 billion euros in budget support to Ukraine
The EU has disbursed a further 4.36 billion euros to Ukraine under a 90 billion euro support loan, with payments linked to reforms agreed with international partners. The funding is intended to help sustain public services and defence as Russia continues attacks, while reinforcing Ukraine’s efforts towards EU membership.
Of the latest payment, 3.7 billion euros is tied to reforms required by the IMF, while 658 million euros is for defence. A further 45 billion euros is earmarked for 2027, also subject to reforms, but Ukraine expects a budget shortfall of 70 billion euros that year. Norway, the UK and Canada have made pledges, and the European Commission is preparing options to address the gap.
