Terry Bradshaw reveals new details about Troy Aikman-Joe Buck feud after texting ‘MNF’ star
Terry Bradshaw said he had texted Joe Buck about reports of a bitter feud with Troy Aikman, but found it hard to believe money was behind the dispute. Bradshaw, who worked with them at Fox Sports, said he understood that relations were currently “okay”, while their Monday Night Football broadcasts continued without problems.
Buck signed a five-year contract worth $108 million with ESPN, while Aikman is seeking a new deal. Reports say Aikman’s representatives asked ESPN for terms comparable to Buck’s and were rebuffed, and that Aikman was upset Buck signed without discussing it with him. Greg Olsen has been mentioned as a possible replacement, and the pair’s partnership could end after the 2027 Super Bowl.
In short
- Bradshaw doubts money is driving the reported feud.
- Buck signed a five-year, $108 million ESPN deal.
- Aikman’s future contract and partnership with Buck are uncertain.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
Aikman could reasonably feel that a close broadcasting partner’s signing a much richer deal without speaking to him changed the terms of their working relationship and weakened his negotiating position. Seeking comparable pay may reflect his experience and value to the broadcasts, and he may see the reported disagreement as a matter of professional respect as well as money.
The case against
Buck was entitled to negotiate and accept his own contract without first consulting a colleague, and a higher salary does not by itself show disrespect or hostility. ESPN may also have assessed the two broadcasters’ roles and market value differently; reports that relations are currently okay and their broadcasts continue smoothly suggest the dispute need not amount to a lasting feud.
