Nicki Minaj Reacts After Democrats Dominate in the 2026 Midterms: ‘Trump Is STILL Your PRESIDENT’
Nicki Minaj responded on X after Democrats won major gains in the 2026 US midterms, including control of both chambers of Congress. The rapper, who had campaigned for Donald Trump and Republican candidates, reiterated her support for the president and said her fans and faith remained central to her.
Minaj posted a silent video and a list of reminders, including “Trump is STILL your PRESIDENT”, and praised Vice-President JD Vance’s explanation that the Iran war contributed to Republican losses. She congratulated Republican winners Anna Paulina Luna and Byron Donalds in Florida. Democrats flipped dozens of congressional seats; Minaj, who was born in Trinidad and Tobago and is not a US citizen, began appearing at Republican political events in late 2025.
In short
- Minaj reaffirmed her support for Trump after Democratic midterm gains.
- Democrats won control of the House and Senate.
- She praised JD Vance and congratulated two Florida Republicans.
Explained simply
US midterm elections take place halfway through a president’s four-year term. Voters choose members of Congress, which has two chambers: the House of Representatives and the Senate. Congress makes federal laws and can investigate the president’s administration.
Nicki Minaj is a rapper born in Trinidad and Tobago who has publicly supported Donald Trump and Republican candidates. She is not a US citizen and cannot vote in US federal elections. The president and vice-president are elected separately from Congress, so a party can lose control of Congress while its president remains in office.
Congressional control matters because it affects which laws can pass and how closely the administration is scrutinised. The reported Republican losses followed debate over the Iran war, among other election issues.
