Ukraine needs to consolidate ‘bipartisan support’ in US following midterm elections, Zelensky says
President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine must adjust its approach to Washington after the midterm elections and strengthen bipartisan support to secure further US military aid. With Democrats set to control both chambers of Congress from 2027, he sees greater scope to pursue assistance previously approved but not delivered.
Zelensky said Ukraine should press for $16 billion in agreed aid and make Patriot interceptor missiles its top priority, warning that delayed deliveries could come years too late for this winter. The US has approved a possible $2.1 billion sale of 500 interceptors, while Zelensky has urged partners to supply missiles from existing stocks and replenish them later. He also called for more F-16s and ammunition as Russian attacks strain Ukraine’s air defences and energy infrastructure.
In short
- Zelensky wants Ukraine to build bipartisan support in Washington.
- Kyiv is seeking $16 billion in previously agreed US aid.
- Patriot missiles are the urgent priority ahead of winter.
