Horror as man leaps from window to escape raging fire ripping through London flat
A fire tore through a restaurant and flat on Seven Sisters Road in Finsbury Park, north London, on Bonfire Night. One man jumped from a second-floor window to escape and was taken to hospital with minor injuries; eight people were evacuated. The blaze prompted a major emergency response and disruption in the area.
Around 70 firefighters attended as flames spread through the building’s top floor and roof. Station Commander Adam Lawson advised local residents to keep their windows and doors closed, and said Seven Sisters Road was shut between Holloway Road and Finsbury Park station, with motorists and pedestrians urged to avoid the area. A witness described seeing four hoses directed at the building as crowds watched.

Explained simply
Finsbury Park is an area in north London, and Seven Sisters Road is a busy route linking it with nearby neighbourhoods. The building involved housed both a restaurant and a flat, so the fire affected a mixed-use property.
London Fire Brigade sends crews and equipment to tackle serious fires and advises people nearby on how to reduce risks, such as keeping windows and doors closed if smoke may spread. Road closures can also be used to give emergency crews room to work and keep the public away from danger.
