California school district bosses face probe over $70K credit card binge on wine and treats just days before $205M bond vote
Four senior administrators in California’s Paso Robles school district are facing scrutiny over district credit card spending, following a report alleging that some charges included winery events, meals and promotional merchandise. The allegations emerged just before voters rejected a $205 million school bond measure, raising questions about public spending and oversight.
From July 2023 to June 2026, the superintendent and three assistant superintendents charged about $70,000 in purchases described as personal or questionable, according to the report; the cards are among roughly 25 issued by the district. District rules prohibit using public funds for personal expenses and gifts, and require meeting records for meal claims. Measure G-26 was defeated on 3 November, with 54.01% voting against it and 45.99% in favour.
