‘La Bola Negra’ to Receive International Star Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival (EXCLUSIVE)

The cast and filmmakers of La Bola Negra will receive the International Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival’s gala on 7 January. The recognition adds to the film’s growing awards profile and comes as it is Spain’s official submission for the 2027 Academy Award for best international feature.

Co-directors Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, alongside stars Penélope Cruz, Guitarricadelafuente and Miguel Bernardeau, are due to attend. The queer historical drama connects stories across generations, including a historian investigating a gay-themed play by Federico García Lorca and the relationship between two soldiers on opposing sides of the Spanish Civil War. Since premiering at Cannes, where it received a 16-minute standing ovation and the Best Director Award, the film has also won audience prizes at the BFI London and Toronto festivals.
