‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Texas Spin-Off Is Officially Coming

ABC has confirmed that its untitled Grey’s Anatomy spin-off, set in rural West Texas, will premiere in the 2027–2028 television season. The move takes the long-running medical drama franchise beyond its usual city settings and is intended to explore the challenges of providing care in an underserved rural area.

The new series is described as taking place at a remote medical centre that offers “the last chance for care before miles of nowhere”. It is expected to introduce new characters, with a possible connection to Grey’s Anatomy through Catherine Fox or another former Grey Sloan character. Creator Shonda Rhimes is expected to return to the writers’ room; the franchise’s previous spin-offs were Private Practice and Station 19.
