Ryan Gosling is Officially Reviving The Flintstones for New Project
Ryan Gosling’s production company, Open Invite, and Warner Bros. are developing a live-action Flintstones reboot centred on an adult Bamm-Bamm. The project marks a new direction for the franchise, but it is at an early stage and Gosling’s involvement as an actor has not been confirmed.
Gosling and his producing partner Jessie Henderson are seeking a writer. Bamm-Bamm first appeared as the baby son of Barney and Betty Rubble in the 1960s cartoon, later appearing as a teenager in a spin-off and in the 1994 live-action film. No cast or plot details have been announced.
In short
- Ryan Gosling’s company is developing a Flintstones reboot.
- The story will centre on a grown-up Bamm-Bamm.
- Gosling may produce, but acting plans are unknown.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
A live-action story centred on adult Bamm-Bamm could give a familiar character room to grow while introducing the franchise to audiences who did not watch the original cartoon. With Gosling and Warner Bros. developing it, the project may bring substantial creative and production resources to a fresh interpretation of the Stone Age setting.
The case against
The Flintstones’ appeal rests partly on its distinctive cartoon style and family humour, which a live-action reboot may struggle to preserve. Focusing on an adult Bamm-Bamm also marks a significant departure from the original ensemble, and with no writer, cast or plot announced, it is too early to know whether the project has a compelling reason to revisit the franchise.
