Martin Lewis issues urgent warning to Brits – ‘latch onto you to steal your money’
Martin Lewis has warned people in the UK about a surge in social media adverts using his name and image to promote fake investments. He says the adverts, which include AI-generated videos, falsely suggest that he endorses products or schemes, exploiting trust in well-known figures to steal money.
Lewis says he does not do adverts and that investment promotions featuring him are scams; he advises checking that posts come from his verified accounts. Report Fraud recorded £24.3 million stolen through AI-enabled investment endorsement scams between January and August, across more than 1,300 reports. Nearly 80% of those reports involved people aged 60 or over, and police and regulators advise researching firms through the FCA’s Firm Checker and contacting a bank immediately if money has been sent.
In short
- Fake adverts are using Martin Lewis’s image and AI videos.
- AI-enabled investment endorsement scams stole £24.3 million.
- Check firms with the FCA and contact your bank if targeted.
