Richard Lloyd, Television Guitarist, Dies at 75
Richard Lloyd, co-founding guitarist of the New York band Television, has died aged 75. He was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a bile duct cancer, in March; his family said his wife Sheila and dog Willie Mays were with him at the end.
Lloyd joined Television in 1973 after Tom Verlaine, Richard Hell and Billy Ficca recruited him as a second guitarist. The band became part of punk’s first wave and built a following at Max’s Kansas City and CBGB, releasing *Marquee Moon* and *Adventure* before splitting in 1978. Television reunited for a final album in 1992, and *Marquee Moon* remains widely recognised and in print.
