Hero police officer who stopped Krakow gunman fights for life after horror shooting

An armed man opened fire in Krakow’s Main Market Square, killing at least six people and injuring 15, before a police officer intervened and the suspect was detained. The officer was shot and is in a very critical condition, making the response a story of both the attack’s toll and the risks faced by those who stopped it.

Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski said the officer suffered three gunshot wounds and was undergoing life-saving surgery. Police said the suspect had driven into the square and fired at people from his car; those confirmed dead include four women and two men.
