8 Masterpiece Detective Shows That Are Better Than ‘Sherlock’
The article argues that eight detective dramas offer qualities that can outshine the BBC’s popular modern take on Sherlock Holmes. It says they bring fresh approaches to the genre through different storytelling styles, complex mysteries and more psychologically layered characters.
The article describes shows including *Luther*, a dark police drama led by Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson, and *Mindhunter*, which follows FBI agents developing criminal profiling in the 1970s. It also highlights *Elementary*, which relocates Holmes and Watson to New York, with Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu in the lead roles. The supplied article text cuts off during its discussion of *Elementary*, so it does not include the full list of eight shows.
In short
- The article recommends eight detective dramas as alternatives to *Sherlock*.
- *Luther* and *Mindhunter* bring darker psychological elements to crime stories.
- *Elementary* recasts Holmes and Watson as investigators in New York.
