CHRIS POLAND And GAR SAMUELSON’s Pre-MEGADETH Band THE NEW YORKERS To Release Collection Of Never-Before-Heard Demos And Live Tracks
A collection of previously unheard demos and live recordings by The New Yorkers, a pre-Megadeth jazz fusion band featuring Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson, is due out on vinyl at the end of the year. The release brings to light music from a group whose members later helped shape Megadeth’s early thrash metal sound.
The 12-inch record, titled “Low-Temperature Delay”, is being issued by New York City label Psychic Reader Records and will include a poster, photographs and liner notes. Formed in 1978 in Los Angeles, The New Yorkers paired Poland and brothers Gar and Stew Samuelson with bassist Robertino “Pag” Pagliari and horn player Don Roper; despite recording demos and building a local following, the band never released an album.
In short
- The New Yorkers’ unreleased recordings are coming out on vinyl.
- Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson formed the band before Megadeth.
- The 12-inch release includes demos, live tracks and archival material.
Explained simply
The New Yorkers were a Los Angeles band formed in 1978, playing jazz fusion, which blends jazz with elements of rock and other styles. The group included guitarist Chris Poland and drummer Gar Samuelson, alongside Gar’s brother Stew Samuelson, bassist Robertino “Pag” Pagliari and horn player Don Roper.
Although the band recorded demos and developed a local following, it never released an album. Poland and Gar Samuelson later joined Megadeth, an influential thrash metal band, making their earlier musical work part of the story of how its first line-up took shape.
