Orbitals brings retro anime co-op puzzling to Switch 2 this September
Engadget's Mat Smith has previewed Orbitals, a two-player puzzle adventure game shown as a Switch 2 exclusive at Summer Game Fest 2026. The hands-on demo highlighted a co-operative experience wrapped in a nostalgic '80s-'90s anime aesthetic, positioning the title as one of the more notable games in Nintendo's showcase ahead of its release.
Orbitals is an asymmetrical co-op game played mostly in vertical split screen, either locally or online, with near-identical protagonists Maki and Omura who share and swap tools to solve timing-based puzzles aboard a spaceship. The wider game promises spacefaring, minigames, hub activities and shared-screen side-scrolling sections. Developer Shapefarm partnered with Tokyo's Studio Massket, with original Gundam artist Toru Yoshida as guest director; characters deliberately animate at a lower frame rate for a retro feel, and both English dubs and Japanese audio will be included. It launches on 3 September 2026.
