X has launched a new video editor and recorder in its iOS app, aiming to persuade creators to publish original material rather than recycling content lifted from other platforms. The tools include the ability to overlay video captions in multiple languages with customisable styling, and green-screen features that let users add backgrounds from their camera roll or existing X posts. According to X's head of product, Nikita Bier, a priority is to give creators the means to make original content and to reward them for it, with further updates promised in the coming weeks.

Bier acknowledged that many posts from top X accounts contain stolen material, sometimes reused years after it first went viral, and the article notes that a video editor alone is unlikely to fix this. X still lacks the anti-theft reporting tools offered by Meta's Reels and YouTube, and faces stiff competition from rivals with established, reliable payout systems. The platform also continues to battle bots, with Bier saying in April that X was suspending "208 bots per minute and growing"; he added that video posts already account for close to half of all impressions on the network. The feature is initially iOS-only, as X's Android app is still being rebuilt.
