The Revenant, Alejandro G. Iñárritu's brutal 2015 Western epic starring Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio, is enjoying a surge in popularity on video-on-demand platforms 11 years after its release, despite still lacking a dedicated streaming home in the US. The renewed interest highlights Hardy's enduring appeal at a time when he has been dominating headlines for other reasons, including the recent controversy over false reports that he had been fired from the Paramount Plus crime drama MobLand.

The film earned Hardy his only Oscar nomination to date, though that recognition was overshadowed by DiCaprio finally winning his first Academy Award for playing Hugh Glass. Hardy remains a hugely bankable star thanks to the Venom franchise and earlier acclaimed work with Christopher Nolan on Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, as well as Mad Max: Fury Road. The Revenant is currently performing strongly on VOD services such as Prime Video and Apple TV, while Hardy is also set to return as Harry Da Souza in MobLand Season 2 later this year.
