Star Trek Online, the long-running massively multiplayer online game that is now 16 years old, has returned to its roots by digging up and remaking one of its earliest storylines. Rather than pushing solely forward with new content, the developers have chosen to revisit and modernise older material, and the reworked storyline is available for players to experience straight away.

The move reflects a common approach among long-lived MMOs, which often refresh ageing early-game content to keep it in step with newer systems and presentation. By overhauling one of its oldest narrative arcs, Star Trek Online aims to give both returning and new players an updated version of foundational story material.
