Some 17 years after its release, Minecraft is adding craftable cushions, giving players a dedicated way to sit down rather than relying on beds, which have been in the game since 2011. The feature has arrived in the game's latest preview build, developed by Mojang, with a full release planned for later this year. Alongside cushions, the update introduces single-use straw beds, expanding the ways players can rest within the survival game.

Cushions come in 16 colour variants and require three Wool Slabs of the same colour to craft, allowing players to place and sit on them in the world. Straw beds, made four at a time from three Hay Bales, let players sleep through the night without setting their spawn point, but are destroyed after one use and do not function in the Nether or The End. The changes are part of preview version 26.40.30, which also adds abandoned camps to the Pale Garden and Flower Forest biomes and improves the Dappled Forest.
