A24’s psychological horror film Backrooms, directed by YouTuber Kane Parsons, has become a streaming sleeper hit after its strong cinema run. The film is fifth in Vudu’s US Top 10, underscoring how internet-born horror concepts and creators are increasingly finding mainstream commercial success.

Parsons became known through his Kane Pixels YouTube channel and viral Backrooms found-footage videos, including one with 91 million views. The film, released in May 2026, stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as a furniture-store owner who finds an entrance to the Backrooms; it reportedly cost about $10 million and has earned more than $384.4 million worldwide.
