Garth Brooks reached number one on the US Hot Country Songs chart on 1 August 1998 with his cover of Bob Dylan’s “To Make You Feel My Love”. Recorded for the Forest Whitaker-directed film Hope Floats, the success underscored how Dylan’s 1997 ballad could cross into mainstream country music.
Dylan originally wrote the song for his album Time Out of Mind, and it has since been covered by more than 450 artists, including Adele. Trisha Yearwood, whom Brooks married in 2005, also recorded it for the same soundtrack; her version reached number 32 on the country chart and number 22 on the adult contemporary chart.
