7 Major New GTA 6 Details Officially Revealed by Rockstar
Rockstar has shared new information about Grand Theft Auto 6 in a Bloomberg report, clarifying rumours about its budget, development and scope. The details suggest the game is the studio’s most expensive production to date and show how its plans changed over years of work.
Rockstar did not disclose a budget, but publishing head Jennifer Kolbe rejected the rumour that it exceeded the $1.5 billion cost of building the Burj Khalifa. Work on GTA 6 was delayed while most of the studio helped complete Red Dead Redemption 2; the project later went through two delays and a period when its creative direction was uncertain. Rockstar’s workforce grew from 2,441 people across 12 offices in 2018 to about 4,711, while the game’s original “Project Americas” scope was narrowed to Miami and its surroundings. The report also describes a story balancing realism with the series’ humour, centred on Bonnie-and-Clyde-inspired protagonists Jason and Lucia.
- Rockstar rejected claims GTA 6 cost more than $1.5 billion.
- The game’s original North and South America scope was narrowed.
- Its story centres on Jason and Lucia’s relationship.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is the next instalment in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series, a long-running set of action games known for large fictional cities and stories about crime. Rockstar is the developer, and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, publishes the games.
The story centres on Jason and Lucia, two partners whose relationship and criminal exploits draw on the American outlaw duo Bonnie and Clyde. The series combines a depiction of modern life with satire and humour, so the game’s tone is part of its identity.
The project’s scale and development history matter because Rockstar’s games involve large teams and long production schedules. GTA 6’s planned setting has also changed: an early concept called “Project Americas” was narrowed to Miami and nearby areas.
