Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has publicly taken the blame for the long-stalled Blade reboot, describing himself as "a giant loser and failure" for failing to get the film made with star Mahershala Ali. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Feige's rare admission highlights one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most prominent unfinished projects, coming at a moment when the studio is otherwise riding high on renewed hype for Avengers: Doomsday and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Blade was first announced in 2019 with two-time Oscar-winner Ali attached to star, but the project has been plagued by repeated director and writer changes and the departure of most of its cast over the years. Once pencilled in for a late-2025 release, it has since been pulled from Marvel's release schedule entirely, with its future now uncertain. The comments come as Marvel promotes the newly released Avengers: Doomsday trailer, which gives the first look at Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom, ahead of the film's 18 December cinema release.
