The announcement, shared by the actors themselves in a playful social media clip, matters to fans because it highlights how the ABC procedural is expanding its ensemble dynamics ahead of the new season, even as the popular "Buddie" romance pairing between Buck and Eddie remains unresolved.

In the clip, Hewitt jokingly declares "Meddie is born" after Guzman surprises her on set, noting it has taken nine years for their characters to share a real scene together, following only minor prior interactions such as a house move in Season 2 and an auction moment in Season 9. Season 10, premiering on 15 October 2026, will also open with a large sinkhole in Los Angeles inspired by a real one that appeared during filming, before escalating into a volcanic disaster storyline in downtown LA, as revealed by showrunner Tim Minear.
