An Alpharetta, Georgia patrol officer allegedly used Flock’s vehicle-tracking system to monitor a former romantic partner and another police officer after their relationship ended. The case has prompted an internal inquiry and an ongoing criminal investigation, highlighting concerns that police access to location-surveillance technology can be misused for personal purposes.

Records obtained by WIRED indicate that Dustin Bozzo searched for his former partner’s number plate 56 times between March and May, and searched the other officer’s vehicle 29 times after noticing the cars near each other. Bozzo was placed on paid leave on 20 July and resigned on 5 August; he reportedly denied intending intimidation or harm, while the department said it acted immediately. WIRED says there have been at least 45 documented cases nationwide of officers misusing Flock to track current or former partners.
