Rapper Afroman (Joseph Edgar Foreman) has filed a lawsuit against Brian K. Newland, one of the police officers who raided his Ohio home in 2022, months after Foreman himself won a defamation case brought by officers over the incident. The new civil suit, filed in Adams County on 27 July, accuses Newland of malicious prosecution, abuse of process, intentional infliction of emotional distress and tortious interference with contract, marking a fresh legal turn in a saga that began with a widely publicised police raid.

At least nine officers searched Foreman's home in summer 2022 on suspicion of drug trafficking and kidnapping, finding no evidence of either and filing no charges; Foreman later turned raid footage into viral music videos. Several officers, including Newland, sued him in 2023 for defamation and false light, seeking $3.9 million, but lost the case in March, a verdict hailed as a free-speech victory and backed by an ACLU of Ohio amicus brief. Foreman also alleged during the earlier trial that $400 was missing from cash seized in the raid, which Newland attributed to a miscount rather than theft; his new lawsuit seeks at least $150,000 in damages, including $25,000 in legal costs, and neither side's attorneys have yet commented.
