Pokémon Go developer Scopely is bringing back Armored Mewtwo, one of the game's rarest Pokémon, for the first time in six years as part of celebrations marking the game's tenth anniversary. The special variant, based on the armoured form of Mewtwo seen in the 2019 film Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution, previously appeared only in 2019 and briefly again in early 2020, before remote raiding made group battles far easier, meaning most current players have never had the chance to catch it.

Armored Mewtwo will appear in raid battles from 10am to 6pm local time on 5 and 6 September as part of the Go Fest Mega Finale, alongside Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y. Catchable versions will come with special "adventure effect" abilities, Dynamic Punch+ and Future Sight+, which boost raid damage and shield-breaking or trigger a glow effect for high-stat Pokémon respectively; however, a shiny version of Armored Mewtwo will not be available this time. As part of the wider anniversary celebrations, all players can also claim a Mewtwo with perfect stats and a special anniversary background by logging in before 6 September.
