Alabama executes man for 1991 killings in last of 3 U.S. executions carried out the same day

Alabama executed Michael Taylor for the 1991 robbery and killings of Ivan and Lucille Moore, making his lethal injection the last of three US executions carried out that day. The unusual cluster came as capital punishment drew renewed scrutiny and California’s governor announced plans to commute the state’s 548 death sentences.

Taylor, 54, was 19 when he beat the couple, aged 83 and 79, with a metal bar in their Gadsden home; police later arrested him with their Cadillac. He was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. local time after declining to make a final statement. Florida also executed Jesse Guardado, while Indiana executed a man convicted over a fatal house fire; Florida’s 19 executions this year tied its state record.
