Alcaraz out of Cincinnati Open with lingering injury

BBC Sport · 4 hours ago

Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open because of an ongoing wrist injury, extending an absence that has already cost him Wimbledon and the defence of his French Open title. The world number two, who had been targeting the tournament as preparation for his US Open title defence, has not competed since retiring from the Barcelona Open in April.

Alcaraz, 23, won the Cincinnati Open in 2025, but organisers of the Ohio event, which begins on 11 August, confirmed his injury will keep him out this year. Tournament director Bob Moran said Alcaraz was doing "everything he can" to return to action and wished him a swift recovery, with the US Open due to start on 30 August.
