Rock drummer Tommy Lee has opened up about the isolating side of touring, describing how the adrenaline of performing for thousands of fans quickly gives way to profound loneliness once he returns to his hotel room. Speaking with Dax Shepard, the Mötley Crüe star explained that despite touring the world countless times over his four-decade career, he has really only ever seen venues, airports and hotel rooms, with little chance to experience anywhere properly. His comments offer a rare, candid glimpse behind the glamour typically associated with rock stardom.

Lee told Shepard that even shows for smaller crowds of three to five thousand people leave him thrilled and exhilarated on stage, only for the feeling to evaporate the moment he is alone again. "All these people loved me like one second ago, and now I'm completely lonely and I don't know what to do," he said. Beyond Mötley Crüe, Lee has released three solo albums, the most recent being Andro in 2020, which reached the Top 40 of the UK Independent Albums chart.
