Alliance Cinema has become an equity financier of David Mamet’s forthcoming film Speed the Plow, strengthening backing for the playwright’s return to directing. Separately, the producer-financier has secured worldwide rights to adapt Brazilian young-adult novel Diary Of A Weird Girl into an international television series, expanding its development slate.

Speed the Plow is in post-production and stars Anthony Mackie, Ben Mendelsohn, Sharon Stone, Emily Alyn Lind, Chris Bauer and Rebecca Pidgeon; it adapts Mamet’s Broadway play but changes elements of its setting and story. Diary Of A Weird Girl follows 13-year-old Carol as she deals with crushes, school pressure, friendship problems, family separation and loneliness; Alliance is now choosing the creative team for the series.
