FX has confirmed that its long-running horror anthology American Horror Story will premiere its 13th season on Thursday 24 September, airing at 9pm ET on FX and Hulu and streaming globally on Disney+. The new run is being promoted as an all-star reunion, drawing back a roster of familiar faces from across the show's history while adding pop star Ariana Grande as a newcomer, signalling a high-profile relaunch for the franchise created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

Returning cast members are said to include Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman. To mark the season, the show will feature at San Diego Comic-Con (23-26 July) with a fleet of ice cream trucks serving themed treats and teaser art on the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The series, produced by 20th Television, says it has been streamed more than 700 million hours worldwide, and its cryptic logline promises "a supreme surprise" without confirming which past storylines will return.

Ariana Grande is best known as a pop star and actress, while American Horror Story is an anthology series that has run on FX since 2011, with each season telling a self-contained horror story using a recurring pool of actors. The show, created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, has become known for blending different actors and storylines across seasons, and season 13 is being pitched as a reunion bringing back many familiar faces alongside Grande as a new addition.

The returning cast includes several actors closely associated with the franchise, among them Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman. This matters because the show has built a large, dedicated fanbase over more than a decade, and a season combining so many past cast members is being treated as a significant moment for the series.

The new season will air on FX and Hulu in the US, with global streaming on Disney+, reflecting how the show is distributed across traditional broadcast and streaming platforms. Details of the plot have been kept deliberately vague, with producers only teasing a "supreme surprise" rather than confirming which earlier storylines, if any, will return.
