Andy Serkis has premiered "Nevatars" at Venice Immersive, a passion project rooted in his performance-capture studio The Imaginarium, co-founded with Jonathan Cavendish. The 30-minute experience imagines what happens to abandoned character concept art, following a young artist and a group of "digital rejects" as they attempt to escape a computer's trash bin, and stands out as one of only two projects at the festival showcasing Google's new XREAL Aura smart glasses.

Co-directed with Josh Nelson Youssef of Boona, the project originated in 2011 and gained momentum after Google's immersive division, 100 Zeroes, sought suitable stories for the format. Its voice cast includes Daisy Ridley, Josh Gad, Kathleen Turner, Steve Zahn, Kelly Marie Tran and Serkis himself. Though built for Android XR, it was chosen this past April as one of the first titles for the XREAL Aura glasses, whose voice activation and interactive, hands-on features let users manipulate objects around them, with creators comparing the effect to "Minority Report".
