The incident is the latest in a string of similar flashpoints on his current tour, highlighting his evident frustration with fans filming or throwing devices during his performances and fuelling ongoing discussion about phone use at his shows.

Footage shared by a fan showed Wallen visibly irritated after being hit while performing "I Got Better"; he walked away before returning to the area, apparently attempting to point out the culprit to security, though it is unclear whether the fan was removed from the venue. It follows earlier incidents in which Wallen slid or threw phones off stage, and one last month where he grabbed a phone from a security guard who was filming him and hurled it away, with the device later recovered undamaged after nine minutes under the stage. He has also shown frustration with equipment, notably pushing over his piano at a Denver show after struggling to hear it through his in-ear monitors. Wallen's tour is due to conclude in Philadelphia on 1 August.
